Home Moving Plans Can Continue In Tier 4 – Guidelines Issued

On Saturday, Boris Johnson announced that new Tier 4 rules would come into effect as of Sunday 20th December across London, the South East and the East of England. The government has since confirmed that the housing market will continue to operate across the UK, even in Tier 4.

An announcement from Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick, on Twitter, says: “Housing market update: the sales and rental markets remain open in all tiers. All associated activities can continue as before.”

But he continues: “Please follow the Covid-secure guidance. And use your judgment as to whether it’s necessary right now.”

The final sentence highlights the importance of following the guidance that is set out by the government. Along with restricting Christmas and travel plans, people should use their judgement on whether to continue with planned activities.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has given guidance for those in Tier 4 locations.

It says: “You can still move home. People outside your household or support bubble should not help with moving house unless necessary.

Conveyancers are open for business and can take on new instructions. Surveyors and EPC assessors are free to visit properties to carry out surveys—Estate and letting agents, surveyors and removals firms can continue to work. If you are looking to move, you can go to property viewings as long as you follow the guidance provided by the government.
